A lot has been said about the controversial death of Colonel Gaddafi. With his negative aspects outweighing his positive ones the world is convinced that Gaddafi was a negative power figure, but the fact still remains that Libya did see many changes during the regime of this leader and though he may have a negative history he did leave some positive footprints on the history of Libya.
Colonel Gaddafi may have been known to be an eccentric ruler with eccentric ways of administration but there were certain aspects which throw a light on the optimistic side of his regime. Here are some of the constructive facts of Libya during the rule of Colonel Gaddafi.
• During the rule of Colonel Gaddafi there was no charge on electricity, yes it was free for all the citizens of Libya
• As per the Islamic law there is no interest to be paid on the loan given by a bank. Can you imagine a loan without any interest in today's day? But this was the case in Libya; people got loans with 0% interest.
• Home was the basic right of all Libyans and Colonel Gaddafi himself vowed to stay in a tent until each and every Libyan got a house.
• Did you know that each newlywed in Libya received around $50,000 aid in order to set up their future life?
• Literacy rates rose up to 83% during the regime of Colonel Gaddafi.
• Mostly at this rank a regions commander would like to be known as General but Mr Gaddafi kept the title of Colonel as the colonel is closer to the troops as compared to the general. The general may often keep a distance from the soldiers but a Colonel is one amongst the soldiers.
• The 'green book' reflected a path shown by him which helped the communism as well as the capitalism to co-exist in a peaceful manner. His ideas had the insight of a democratic and communion oriented leader.
• The westerners may have coined Gaddafi as the 'mad ruler of middle east' but he was reputed as a wise statesman and an experienced leader in Libya as well as Africa. He even creased the ties with Britain after meeting the then Prime Minister Mr Tony Blair.
• One hideous truth was that every portion of Libyan oil which was sold was directly credited to the bank accounts of the citizens of Libya.
• Now this is an amazing fact that Libya has no external debts and on the contrary has reserves amounting to about $150 billion which unfortunately are frozen globally in the present times.
It's evident that the people who bombed Libya were not as democratic as Libya itself was and this is clearly evident from what Jean Jacques Rousseau, born in Geneva in 1712 has to say. He says that 'there never was a true democracy and there never will be.' and as per the conditions set by him for labeling a country a true democracy it's clear that Gaddafi's Libya was far more democratic than the USA, France and the others claiming to export democracy in Libya.
