Paid and Unpaid Exposure

By Paul R Lester

In this vast and growing business of online marketing and all the associated links and ideas that go with it, it becomes very easy to lose sight of you goals and main objectives. You see there are so many ways in which to promote and sell your wares and it becomes very difficult to see wood for all the trees in the way. What I mean is you can easily be sucked into paying for advertising and marketing in so many different ways, of course everyone talks about Google AdWords and 'pay per click' but what is the value of it and how successful is it, you will only know that by trial and error, and believe me I have made a few errors along the way.

The thing is that all the companies out there offering you 'great exposure' and 'so many clicks' per day, are all doing exactly the same as what you are trying to do, and that is sell their wares and make money, so you have to be careful.

If you are just starting out you obviously need to watch the pennies and therefore my advice would be to look for as many free ways to get noticed as possible, and there are plenty of them.

First and foremost is a blog, you are reading an article from mine now and not necessarily in my website. So build your site and include a blog which you must write and add articles at least 5 times per week. Then go and do a few searches for open forums within your niche, you will find that you have to pay to be a member on some of these but others not.

Introduce yourself, make friends and maybe get to know a few people, don't blatantly advertise your products but put a link at the bottom of your entries to your site. These are called 'back links' and you need as many as possible, the more you have the better Google will rank you. Try writing some articles and post them in places like 'Betternetworker.com or 'Ezinearticles.com'. Again at the bottom of each article place a 'signature' a link to your site or a page within your site and don't forget to put http:// in front of your link or it will not be clickable.

So you can see there are many ways to promote yourself or your products without having to spend a fortune, as I said you will find that some forums are paid ones but most are just a one off fee or at worst an annual fee. I hope this helps you and you gain more prospects as a result.
